Nurul is fantastic. After a few sessions my shoulder pain was healed and I could now put both my hands behind my back with ease. I am so happy!
Initially my right hand movement was restricted…some kind of frozen shoulder I guess. It went on for a few months. After being treated by Nurul, it slowly went away and now I can use my right hand like normal without feeling any pain.
A Personalised Assessment First
Your first visit starts with a personalised assessment to understand your symptoms, movement and individual circumstances. We then explain what we find and whether our assessment-led approach may be suitable for you.
What Is Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder and other forms of shoulder restriction can involve more than just pain. The shoulder may feel increasingly stiff or difficult to move, and everyday movements that were once easy can become uncomfortable or restricted.
You may notice difficulty lifting your arm above your head, restricted movement when reaching behind your back, or discomfort when lying on the affected side. Everyday tasks such as putting on clothes or reaching into a cupboard can become harder, and one shoulder may start moving noticeably differently from the other.
Why Symptoms May Occur
Sometimes there is an obvious reason shoulder movement has become restricted, such as a period of reduced use after an injury or surgery. Other times, symptoms develop gradually without one clear event. Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is also reported more often alongside certain health conditions, which is something your doctor is best placed to advise on.
Why an Assessment Matters
Shoulder pain and restricted movement can have different causes and do not necessarily mean you have frozen shoulder. Your assessment considers your symptoms, how your shoulder moves, and how the surrounding areas are working, before discussing whether our approach may be appropriate for you.

Why Choose My Bowen Therapy for Frozen Shoulder & Restricted Movement?
Assessment Before Treatment
We take time to understand your symptoms, movement and individual circumstances before deciding how to approach your session. Throughout your session, we continue to observe how your body responds, helping to guide a personalised approach to your care.
A Multidisciplinary Team
Our therapists come from physiotherapy and sports science backgrounds and are all trained in our Bowen approach, working to shared My Bowen Therapy standards. Combining different professional backgrounds with additional Bowen Therapy training supports an assessment-led approach focused on your movement, symptoms and individual needs.
Personalised Bowen Therapy
Your treatment is guided by your assessment and response rather than following the same routine for every shoulder problem. Frozen shoulder therapy in KL is not a fixed protocol here; two people at different stages of the same condition may be approached quite differently.
Focused on Understanding
We believe that helping people understand how their body works is an important part of supporting their comfort and long-term wellbeing. We take the time to explain what we find during your assessment, answer your questions and help you feel confident in your care.

Why Your Assessment May Include More Than Just Your Shoulder
Your shoulder does not work in isolation. Depending on your presentation, your therapist may assess your shoulder, shoulder blade, neck, upper and lower back, posture and overall movement to build a broader picture of how your body is moving.
In our experience, some people with shoulder restriction also have areas of longstanding tension or reduced movement elsewhere that they had stopped noticing or simply become accustomed to over time.
We may also consider previous injuries, surgery, differences in movement between sides, and everyday activities that could be relevant to your presentation.
Not every factor will be relevant to every person, and findings elsewhere in the body do not necessarily explain the cause of your shoulder symptoms. Your assessment helps us understand your individual presentation before discussing the most appropriate approach to your care.

Experiencing Pain in Your Shoulder, Stiffness or Restricted Movement?
The shoulder may feel increasingly stiff or difficult to move, and everyday movements that were once easy can become uncomfortable or restricted.
You may notice:
- Difficulty lifting your arm above your head
- Restricted movement when reaching behind your back
- Shoulder pain or stiffness that has gradually increased
- Difficulty putting on clothes or reaching into a cupboard
- Discomfort when lying or sleeping on the affected side
- Pain or restriction around the shoulder or upper arm
- One shoulder moving noticeably differently from the other
Shoulder pain and restricted movement can have different causes and do not necessarily mean you have frozen shoulder.
If your symptoms are sudden, severe, worsening or concerning, appropriate medical assessment should be sought.
Understanding the Shoulder
The shoulder allows your arm to move in many different directions. The upper arm bone, shoulder blade, and collarbone form part of the shoulder complex, supported by muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and other soft tissues.
Importantly, raising and moving your arm does not involve the shoulder joint alone. The shoulder blade and surrounding areas also need to move and work together.
How Frozen Shoulder Can Feel
Pain and stiffness can vary considerably between individuals and may change as the condition progresses.
For some people, pain is the most noticeable symptom initially; for others, increasing restriction in everyday shoulder movement becomes the bigger problem.
How Frozen Shoulder May Develop
Frozen shoulder often develops gradually, and there isn’t always an obvious reason why it started.
It is commonly described as progressing through three stages:
Freezing: Pain may become increasingly noticeable while shoulder movement becomes progressively more restricted.
Frozen:Pain may begin to settle, while stiffness and restricted movement can remain significant.
Thawing:Shoulder movement gradually begins to improve.

These stages describe a general pattern, but not everyone experiences frozen shoulder in exactly the same way or over the same timeframe.
Frozen shoulder can sometimes develop after an injury or surgery where normal shoulder movement has been limited. It is also more common in people with certain health conditions, including diabetes and some thyroid conditions. In many cases, however, the reason it develops is not fully understood.
Wherever you are in that pattern, frozen shoulder treatment in KL and across Malaysia should begin with an assessment of your symptoms, movement and current presentation. The stage you are at can be an important part of understanding what support may be appropriate.
How My Bowen Therapy Assesses Your Frozen Shoulder
Every person experiences frozen shoulder differently. That’s why every consultation begins with a thorough assessment. We’ll discuss your symptoms and how long they’ve been going on, observe your posture and shoulder movement, and assess movement through the shoulder blade, neck and upper back where appropriate. We then develop a personalised support plan tailored to your individual needs.
We Listen
We take the time to understand your symptoms, when they began, any previous injury or surgery, and how your shoulder is affecting everyday activities such as dressing, reaching or sleeping on that side.
We Observe
We observe your posture and movement, including how comfortably you lift your arm overhead and reach behind your back, to build a clearer picture of your individual needs.
We Assess
We assess factors that may be relevant to your symptoms, including movement patterns, muscle and fascial tension, and how movement compares from one shoulder to the other.
We Explain
We explain our findings in clear, straightforward language and answer any questions you may have.
We Create Your Support Plan
Based on your assessment, we develop a personalised support plan tailored to your individual needs and goals.
We Begin Your Care
If appropriate, your first Bowen Therapy session usually begins during the same appointment.
The My Bowen Therapy Approach to Frozen Shoulder & Shoulder Restriction
If you have already been diagnosed with frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis, or have scans or reports from your doctor, you are welcome to bring these to your consultation. It is also helpful to know how long your symptoms have been going on and which movements are most restricted-reaching overhead, reaching behind your back, or both.
Precise Hands-On Techniques
Targeted Bowen Therapy movements are applied over muscles, fascia and other soft tissues according to your individual needs.
Shoulder & Surrounding Tissues
Treatment may involve the shoulder, shoulder blade and surrounding soft tissues depending on your assessment findings.
Looking Beyond the Shoulder
Your therapist may also work with other areas identified as relevant during your assessment.
Adapted Throughout Your Care
Treatment can be adjusted according to your movement, comfort and response.

Frequently Asked Questions
People experiencing frozen shoulder, shoulder stiffness or restricted movement may choose Bowen Therapy as part of their care. However, every person’s presentation is different and we don’t promise a particular outcome.
At My Bowen Therapy, we begin with an assessment to understand your symptoms, movement and individual circumstances before discussing whether Bowen Therapy may be appropriate for you.
This varies depending on your individual presentation, how long you’ve been experiencing symptoms and how you respond to treatment.
Your therapist will discuss their recommendations with you after your assessment rather than prescribing the same number of sessions for everyone.
Yes, you can still book a consultation if you’ve received a diagnosis of frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis.
If you have scans, reports or information from your doctor or another healthcare professional, you’re welcome to bring them with you. Your therapist will consider this information alongside your assessment.
Yes. Bowen Therapy can be used as complementary care alongside medical treatment, physiotherapy or other healthcare.
If you’re currently receiving care from another healthcare professional, continue following their advice and let your Bowen therapist know about your existing treatment during your consultation.
Frozen shoulder often improves over time, although recovery can vary considerably between individuals and may take many months or longer. If you’re unsure about your symptoms or how they’re progressing, seek appropriate medical advice. At My Bowen Therapy, we assess your individual presentation before discussing whether Bowen Therapy may be appropriate as part of your care.
We have two Kuala Lumpur locations, Damansara (TTDI) and KLCC. Both offer a free initial consultation with no obligation to continue, and both are within reach of the surrounding areas including Bangsar, Mont Kiara and Petaling Jaya.
Seek prompt medical advice if your shoulder pain follows a significant injury or accident, is sudden or severe, is rapidly worsening, or is accompanied by concerning symptoms such as significant weakness, loss of sensation, severe swelling, deformity or feeling seriously unwell.
If you’re unsure whether your symptoms require medical assessment, it’s safest to seek appropriate medical advice.
