I originally came in because of headaches caused by a stiff neck and shoulders. I really appreciated that my concerns were listened to carefully and that every session began with an assessment. Each appointment felt personalised, and the approach was adapted to how my body was responding.
A Personalised Assessment First
Your first visit starts with a personalised assessment to understand your symptoms, movement and individual circumstances. We then explain what we find and whether our assessment-led approach may be suitable for you.
What Are Headaches & Migraines?
Headaches and migraines are common, but they’re not the same. While both involve pain affecting the head, they can differ in how they feel, how often they occur, and the factors that may contribute to them. Understanding your individual presentation is an important first step in deciding the most appropriate course of care.
What Are Headaches?
Headaches are one of the most common reasons people seek healthcare. They are a symptom rather than a condition on their own and can vary greatly in type, frequency, and severity. Tension-type headaches are the pattern most commonly described, though they are not the only one.
What Is a Migraine?
A migraine is more than just a severe headache. Some people also experience nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, or visual disturbances before or during an episode. Symptoms and severity can vary considerably between individuals.
Why Do Headaches Occur?
Headaches and migraines can have many possible contributing factors. These may include stress, poor sleep, dehydration, neck or jaw tension, posture, hormonal changes, certain foods, medications, prolonged screen use or underlying medical conditions. Understanding what may be contributing to your symptoms is an important part of deciding the most appropriate course of care.
Why an Assessment Matters
Headaches and migraines can have many possible contributing factors, understanding your individual presentation is an important first step. Rather than making assumptions based on symptoms alone, we assess your posture, movement, medical history and other relevant factors to determine whether there may be musculoskeletal contributors and whether Bowen Therapy may be appropriate for your needs.

Why People Choose My Bowen Therapy
While no two assessments are the same, the principles that guide our approach remain consistent.
Here’s what people value most about choosing My Bowen Therapy.
Assessment-Led Care
We take time to understand your symptoms, movement, and individual circumstances before deciding how to approach your session. Throughout your session, we continue to observe how your body responds, helping to guide a personalised approach to your care.
A Multidisciplinary Team
Our team brings together expertise in physiotherapy, sports science and Bowen Therapy. By combining different professional backgrounds with additional Bowen Therapy training, we take an assessment-led approach that focuses on understanding your movement, symptoms and individual needs. That combination is what people are often looking for when they search for migraine treatment in Kuala Lumpur.
Personalised Care
No two people are the same, so no two sessions are exactly alike. Rather than following a fixed routine, we tailor every session to your assessment findings, your goals and how your body responds throughout your care.
Helping You Understand Your Body
We believe that understanding how your body moves is an important part of your care. We take the time to explain our assessment findings, answer your questions and help you understand the factors that may be contributing to your symptoms, so you can feel informed and involved throughout your journey.

Why We Take a Full Body Assessment Before Therapy Starts
Every person experiences headaches and migraines differently. Before recommending any course of care, we first take the time to understand your symptoms, relevant medical history, posture and movement. This assessment helps us identify any musculoskeletal factors that may be contributing to your presentation and determine whether Bowen Therapy may be appropriate for your individual needs.
If your symptoms suggest an underlying medical condition or require further investigation, we’ll always recommend seeking appropriate medical assessment before beginning care.
Why We Assess Your Whole Body, Not Just the Area of Pain
When you visit My Bowen Therapy, we’re interested in understanding you as a whole person, not just the area where you feel pain.
Pain is often the reason people seek help, but it doesn’t always tell the whole story. We take time to understand your symptoms, medical history, posture, movement, and how different parts of your body work together. This whole-body assessment helps us build a clearer picture of your presentation and identify any musculoskeletal factors that may be contributing to how you’re feeling.

Understanding Possible Causes of Headaches, Migraines and Neck-Related Headaches
Headaches and migraines can have many different contributing factors, and the same symptoms don’t always have the same cause. While some headaches are temporary and resolve on their own, others may occur more frequently or become part of an ongoing pattern, which people often describe as chronic or recurring headaches.
Understanding what may be contributing to your symptoms is an important first step. That’s why we take time to assess your medical history, lifestyle, posture and movement rather than making assumptions based on symptoms alone. If your symptoms suggest an underlying medical condition or require further investigation, we’ll recommend seeking appropriate medical assessment.
Neck & Muscle Tension
Tight muscles around the neck, shoulders and upper back may influence how the head and neck move. Some people with headaches also report neck stiffness or muscle tension alongside their symptoms. Others may have been told their headaches are related to their neck, sometimes referred to as cervicogenic headaches. These are all factors we consider as part of your assessment.
Tension Headaches
Tension-type headaches are among the most commonly described patterns, often felt as a band of pressure around the head or an ache across the forehead and temples rather than a throbbing pain. Some people notice them alongside periods of stress, prolonged screen use or sustained postures. Where tension headaches are part of your presentation, we assess the neck, shoulders and upper back alongside your movement and daily activities.
Jaw Tension (TMJ)
Jaw clenching, teeth grinding and tension around the jaw may occur alongside headaches in some people. Assessing jaw movement and surrounding muscles can help build a more complete understanding of your presentation.
Stress, Sleep & Lifestyle Factors
Stress, poor sleep, dehydration, prolonged screen use and other lifestyle factors may all influence headaches or migraines. Every person’s experience is different, which is why we take the time to understand your daily activities and overall health.
Every Person Is Different
No two people experience headaches or migraines in exactly the same way. Previous injuries, posture, movement patterns, medical history, and general health may all be relevant to your symptoms. Our assessment considers the whole person to help identify any musculoskeletal factors that may be contributing to your presentation.
Common Headache & Migraine Symptoms
Headaches and migraines don’t always feel the same. Some people experience occasional headaches, while others have frequent headaches or recurring migraines that affect work, sleep, and daily activities.
The type, location, and intensity of symptoms can also vary. Understanding your symptoms is an important first step in deciding the most appropriate course of care.
Head Pain
Head pain can range from a dull ache or feeling of pressure to a more intense, throbbing sensation. It may affect one side of the head, both sides, the forehead, temples, or the back of the head.
Some people describe pressure across the forehead (often how a tension headache is described), pain behind the eyes or discomfort starting at the base of the skull.
Neck Stiffness & Muscle Tension
Some people experience neck stiffness, shoulder tension or discomfort at the base of the skull alongside their headaches or migraines. These symptoms may occur before, during or after a headache episode. Where headaches appear closely related to the neck, they are sometimes described as cervicogenic headaches.
Sensitivity to Light, Sound or Smell
Migraines may be accompanied by increased sensitivity to light, sound or strong smells. Some people also experience nausea or visual disturbances before or during a migraine.
Symptoms Can Vary
No two people experience headaches or migraines in exactly the same way. Symptoms may change over time and can vary in frequency, intensity, and duration. If your headaches are sudden, severe, persistent, or accompanied by other concerning symptoms, it’s important to seek appropriate medical assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Although both involve head pain, they’re not the same. Headaches can range from mild to severe and may feel like pressure or tightness, which is how a tension headache is often described. Migraine is a neurological condition that often cause more intense symptoms and may be accompanied by nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, or visual disturbances. Not everyone experiences migraines in the same way.
Some people experience headaches alongside neck stiffness or muscle tension, and headaches thought to originate from the neck are sometimes called cervicogenic headache. Because headaches can have many possible contributing factors, we assess your symptoms, posture and movement as part of a whole-body assessment to understand what may be relevant to what you’re experiencing.
You should seek medical assessment if you experience a sudden, severe headache unlike anything you’ve had before, headaches following a head injury, headaches with fever, weakness, confusion, vision changes, difficulty speaking, or persistent headaches that are becoming more frequent or severe. If you’re unsure, it’s always safest to seek medical advice.
Some people experiencing ongoing headache patterns choose Bowen Therapy as part of their wider care. Every person’s presentation is different, so we begin with an assessment to understand your symptoms, movement and medical history before discussing whether our approach may be appropriate for you.
There is no set number of sessions for someone with a slipped, bulging or herniated disc. People with similar diagnoses can have very different symptoms and presentations.
Your therapist will assess how you are responding and discuss an appropriate treatment plan with you rather than prescribing the same number of sessions for everyone.
